6060 Italy calls out to copenhagen! – L'ONDA ANOMALA SI DIFFONDE IN EUROPA

20081112 21:28:00 redazione-IT

We are Italians living in Denmark. We are students or exchange students, we are Ph.d.’s and workers, and we are all part of the large wave that in the last two months blocked Italy with massive demos, strikes, blockades and all sort of actions with great participation.
Berlusconi’s government and its Minister of Education are about to reform the entire Italian education system, practically dismantling the public education and therefore putting its existence at stake.

Less economic funding and the bind to hire only one teacher for every five who retire, along with the possibility given to University administrations to turn themselves into private foundations, practically serve the public education to the highest bidder, condemning an entire generation of researchers and Ph.d.’s to lifelong precariety and future students to a private education.

Other schools and high schools will also be severely affected by the reform, with less laboratories, creation of a single teaching figure in primary schools and the elimination of “full time” study, meaning no possibility of leaving kids at school after the lunch break.

The existence of public education is at stake, and if we loose this game now, there won’t be any another game.

It’s an Italian struggle, but also a European one

All over Europe in the past decades, we have had ups and downs that inevitably ended with governments finding the magic solution in cuts on the welfare state side, on the social policies and public investments, privatizing services and common resources.

The new capitalistic crisis will hit us hard in the next years, and it is our responsibility to protect what we have left and obtain more, and say it out loud, as constantly repeated in Italy in these days, that

WE WON’T PAY FOR YOUR CRISIS!

On November 14th , while a massive national demo will take place in Rome, countless cities around Europe will host smaller but significant actions or demos in front of the Italian Embassies or Consulates, planned spontaneously and organized by Italian students living abroad.

Join us, on Nov 14th at 12.00, for a demo in front the italian ambassador residence, in Fredericiagade 2 (corner with Amaliegade), KBH K. We will hand in our requests and eat a pasta all together, with our hearts in Rome and the future in our hands.
