Che c\u2019entra la NATO?<br \/>\nCe lo spiegano gli <a href=\"http:\/\/www.peaceandjustice.it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Statunitensi per la Pace e la Giustizia<\/a> di Roma, in un loro documento diffuso in occasione della manifestazione dei fratelli newyorkesi.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3><strong>Eccone un brano esteso:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Il conflitto in Ucraina non nasce dal tanto sbandierato \u201cdesiderio di impero\u201d del presidente russo, Vladimir Putin, bens\u00ec dal molto meno sbandierato \u201cdesiderio di impero\u201d della NATO&#8230; e di Wall Street. Si tratta di un desiderio di dominare e di sfruttare altri paesi, lo stesso impulso che ha portato alle invasioni (rivelatesi poi ingiustificate) dell\u2019Afghanistan, dell\u2019Iraq, della Libia, della Siria e poi, nel 2014, della stessa Ucraina quando, ad assaltare Kiev e ad imporre un leader voluto da Washington, erano le milizie ucraine filo naziste addestrate nelle caserme NATO in Polonia.<\/p>\n<p>Oggi \u2013 come nel lontano 2014 \u2013 si vede a malapena la mano della NATO dietro l\u2019insorgere dei tragici eventi in Ucraina. Ma c\u2019\u00e8. E riconoscere questo fatto \u00e8 importante perch\u00e9 ci consente, a noi pacifisti occidentali, di poter <b>agire da protagonisti per riportare la pace<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>Prima, per\u00f2, dobbiamo renderci pienamente conto in che maniera la NATO ha agito e agisce.<\/p>\n<p>Secondo la Narrazione Ufficiale, appena ricordata, il conflitto in Ucraina sarebbe dovuto esclusivamente al sogno del sig. Putin di diventare un nuovo Hitler e di conquistare il mondo. Solo che, sogni a parte, Putin sa benissimo \u2013 come i fatti stanno a dimostrare \u2013 che la Russia \u00e8 s\u00ec una potenza nucleare, ma non ha le forze per condurre una guerra planetaria e nemmeno una guerra su scala europea; addirittura, ha molta difficolt\u00e0 a fare una guerra nella sola regione est dell\u2019Ucraina, il Donbass. Quindi, a meno di non essere completamente pazzo, il sig. Putin non pu\u00f2 aver attaccato l&#8217;Ucraina, come ha fatto, convinto di essersi lanciato alla conquista del mondo, un pezzo alla volta, come recita la propaganda del Pentagono ripresa dai mass media mainstream.<\/p>\n<p>Putin ha attaccato l\u2019Ucraina perch\u00e9 la NATO lo ha provocato a farlo, annunciando (poi smentendo, poi annunciando di nuovo, poi smentendo, poi riannunciando, in una calcolata guerra dei nervi) il suo intento di espandersi fino ai confini russo-ucraini, costruendo lungo quei confini diversi siti per missili nucleari che i russi non potrebbero abbattere, essendo il punto di lancio cos\u00ec vicino a Mosca.<\/p>\n<p>In altre parole, la Russia ha attaccato perch\u00e9 la NATO ha tirato fuori un coltello (l\u2019Ucraina, appunto) e glielo sta puntando alla gola.<\/p>\n<p>Come bisogna reagire a un bullo (in questo caso, la NATO) che tira fuori un coltello e te lo punta alla gola? Devi supplicarlo di risparmiarti? Devi gridare \u201caiuto\u201d? Per il sig. Putin, n\u00e9 l\u2019uno n\u00e9 l\u2019altro. Egli ha scelto di usare la violenza contro la minaccia di violenza, attaccando per prima: un crimine secondo il diritto internazionale e un tragico errore che sta costando caro alla Russia.<\/p>\n<p>Inoltre, quella scelta ha dimostrato quanto \u00e8 sbagliato rispondere alla violenza con la violenza.<\/p>\n<p>Ma dobbiamo concludere che essa dimostra anche che il sig. Putin sia davvero pazzo o, come minimo, un bugiardo? In fondo, egli afferma di aver dovuto fare una guerra preventiva contro un pericolo che non \u00e8 nemmeno imminente.<\/p>\n<p>Nel fare cos\u00ec, tuttavia, egli pu\u00f2 vantare degli illustri predecessori. Gli USA, ad esempio, l\u2019hanno fatto pi\u00f9 volte. Nel 2003, il Presidente Bush invase l\u2019Iraq per impedirlo di usare delle ipotetiche armi di distruzione di massa mai trovate, occupando poi illegalmente il paese per altri dieci anni, senza subire sanzioni o condanne da parte dell\u2019Unione Europea. E nel 1962, il Presidente Kennedy rispose al presunto intento dell&#8217;allora URSS di installare missili nucleari a Cuba, a meno di 90 km dagli Stati Uniti, apprestandosi a dichiarare la Terza Guerra Mondiale! Malgrado il fatto che egli sapesse benissimo che questa sua decisione, se messo in pratica, sarebbe stata giudicata dalla Storia un errore criminale, in quanto gli ipotetici missili sovietici non rappresentavano ancora un pericolo imminente contro gli USA. Kennedy si discolp\u00f2 presso l\u2019opinione pubblica affermando che nessun paese pu\u00f2 accettare nemmeno i preparativi per l\u2019installazione di missili nucleari sui propri confini.<\/p>\n<p>Fortunatamente, nel 1962, l&#8217;URSS fece marcia indietro e rinunci\u00f2 all\u2019installazione dei suoi missili a Cuba (anche perch\u00e9 aveva ottenuto, come contropartita in trattative segrete, lo smantellamento di una base missilistica USA in Turchia). Cos\u00ec fu scongiurata una conflagrazione nucleare.<\/p>\n<p>Oggi, per\u00f2, la NATO si rifiuta di fare marcia indietro.<\/p>\n<p>Anzi, sta suonando i tamburi di guerra, ufficialmente per aiutare l&#8217;Ucraina a riconquistare il Donbass e la Crimea in nome della sua sovranit\u00e0 ma in realt\u00e0 per poter poi installare le sue basi missilistiche proprio l\u00ec.<\/p>\n<p>In altre parole, Wall Street e la NATO (braccia armata dell\u2019alta finanza USA) hanno ogni intenzione di tenere il coltello puntato alla gola della Russia, installando missili balistici sui confini russo-ucraini. In tal modo potranno costringere la Russia a capitolare su tutta la linea \u2013 pena l&#8217;annientamento. Ad esempio, potranno imporre alla Russia un Presidente pro USA, disposto a cedere alle multinazionali statunitensi e in particolare quelle britanniche, a prezzi stracciati, le vaste risorse energetiche russe, come gli USA fece fare ad <a href=\"https:\/\/it.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Boris_Nikolaevi%C4%8D_El'cin#Accuse_sui_legami_con_gli_Stati_Uniti\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Eltsin<\/a> negli anni \u201890.<\/p>\n<p>Ora, riflettiamoci un istante.<\/p>\n<p>Cosa faremmo NOI se ci trovassimo in una situazione del genere? Cio\u00e8, se fossimo la Russia.<\/p>\n<p>(1.) Non potremmo accettare un coltello alla gola.<\/p>\n<p>(2.) Ma non potremmo nemmeno reagire con un attacco, perch\u00e9 ci\u00f2 peggiorerebbe le cose.<\/p>\n<p>Esiste forse una terza via?<\/p>\n<p>\u00c8 quello che dir\u00e0 la manifestazione odierna a New York. Esiste s\u00ec una terza via, diranno ad esempio le donne dell\u2019ONG Code Pink, co-organizzatrici. E\u2019 una via, per\u00f2, che non esige dalla Russia, come invece fanno Washington e Kiev, il ritiro unilaterale russo dall\u2019Ucraina per lasciar entrare la NATO, in quanto ci\u00f2 equivarrebbe a chiedere alla Russia di suicidarsi.<\/p>\n<p>Perci\u00f2 la risposta \u00e8 proprio quella opposta: esigere dalla NATO di ritirarsi. Perch\u00e9 pu\u00f2 e deve farlo.<\/p>\n<p>Infatti, la NATO non ha nessun bisogno di installare i suoi missili sui confini russo-ucraini, dove non potrebbero essere abbattuti. Quei missili rappresentano gi\u00e0 un deterrente sufficiente collocati laddove si trovano ora.<\/p>\n<p>Inoltre, sappiamo (dall&#8217;offerta di negoziati che la Russia ha fatto PRIMA dell&#8217;invasione, nel dicembre 2021) che Putin \u00e8 pi\u00f9 che disposto a fare concessioni. Quindi la NATO potrebbe verosimilmente ottenere una contropartita accettabile (come Krusciov da Kennedy nel 1962) se solamente accettasse, in via definitiva mediante trattato, di non espandersi fino all&#8217;Ucraina.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Ma l&#8217;Ucraina non \u00e8 libera di entrare nella NATO, se vuole?&#8221;, si chiede spesso. La risposta \u00e8 negativa. \u201cLa mia libert\u00e0 <em>finisce dove<\/em> comincia la vostra\u201d disse Martin Luther King. Non abbiamo la libert\u00e0 di stoccare bombe nel nostro giardino se ci\u00f2 mette in pericolo i nostri vicini. Per lo stesso motivo, il Messico non \u00e8 libero di aderire alla CSTO (la versione russa della NATO) e di lasciar installare missili russi lungo i suoi confini con gli USA. O l\u2019Ucraina di aderire alla NATO. La libert\u00e0 non \u00e8 incondizionata, \u00e8 sempre vincolata dal rispetto per l\u2019incolumit\u00e0 degli altri.<\/p>\n<p>Ci\u00f2 significa che, nel pretendere che la NATO faccia marcia indietro, non stiamo chiedendole di arrendersi a un bullo. La NATO non avrebbe dovuto fare la sua provocazione per cominciare. Perci\u00f2 fare marcia indietro significa semplicemente &#8220;resettare&#8221; le cose al punto di partenza.<\/p>\n<p>In conclusione, dunque, esiste s\u00ec una possibilit\u00e0 di pace in Ucraina e ce l\u2019abbiamo nelle nostre mani. Perch\u00e9 solo NOI possiamo fermare l\u2019espansione della NATO all\u2019est.<\/p>\n<p>La Russia non riesce a farlo, lo si vede. La Cina si rifiuta di schierarsi. L&#8217;Europa o guarda dall&#8217;altra parte (Austria, Irlanda, ecc.) o appoggia la NATO fornendo armi per alimentare la guerra in Ucraina (Italia, Francia, ecc.). L&#8217;Assemblea Generale delle Nazioni Unite non ha il potere di fermare l&#8217;espansione della NATO e il Consiglio di Sicurezza, che avrebbe il potere, non lo far\u00e0 mai perch\u00e9 tra i membri permanenti, con diritto di veto, ci sono paesi appartenenti all\u2019Alleanza Atlantica.<\/p>\n<p><b>Ci\u00f2 significa che spetta ai popoli degli stessi paesi della NATO premere sui propri governi per fermare la sua espansione all\u2019est. Questa \u00e8 l&#8217;UNICA strada per ripristinare la pace.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Ed \u00e8 l\u2019unica maniera per aiutare davvero i poveri ucraini. Infatti, &#8220;aiutarli&#8221; non significa inviare loro pi\u00f9 armi, checch\u00e9 se ne dica. Non dobbiamo ascoltare quegli ucraini che ripetono la linea del Pentagono chiedendo &#8220;pi\u00f9 armi&#8221; per farsi poi uccidere e consentire cos\u00ec alla NATO di sfinire la Russia in una lunghissima guerra di attrizione. Dovremmo ascoltare, invece, gli ALTRI ucraini, quelli che il governo &#8220;democratico&#8221; non ha ancora ucciso o incarcerato per aver chiesto la pace. Quelli che vogliono che l&#8217;Ucraina resti fuori dalla NATO, per garantire quella pace. (I nostri media non lo dicono, ma l&#8217;Ucraina ha ucciso o fatto &#8220;sparire&#8221; pi\u00f9 di 80 blogger e giornalisti, considerati traditori perch\u00e9 avevano osato chiedere la pace e la neutralit\u00e0.)<\/p>\n<p>Dovremmo ascoltare loro, i coraggiosi ucraini non ancora &#8220;fatti scomparire&#8221;, invece dei tirapiedi del Pentagono che vediamo sempre in TV.<\/p>\n<p>Perci\u00f2 lo slogan della manifestazione di oggi a New York \u00e8 una proclama che <b>tutti noi<\/b> possiamo sottoscrivere, insieme a <b>tutti gli ucraini amanti della pace<\/b>. E cio\u00e8:<\/p>\n<p>ESPANSIONE DELLA NATO &#8212; NO!<\/p>\n<p>PACE IN UCRAINA &#8212; S\u00cc!<\/p>\n<p>L&#8217;ONU non pu\u00f2 fermare l&#8217;espansione della NATO ad est? It will, because the war is <\/span><span style=\"color: #400040;\"><b>NOT<\/b><\/span><span style=\"color: #400040;\"> about <\/span><span style=\"color: #400040;\"><b>Putin&#8217;s desire for empire<\/b><\/span><span style=\"color: #400040;\">, <\/span><span style=\"color: #400040;\">even though that is how it has been painted. Instead, it is<\/span><span style=\"color: #400040;\"> about <\/span><span style=\"color: #400040;\"><b>NATO&#8217;s <\/b><\/span><span style=\"color: #400040;\">(and <\/span><span style=\"color: #400040;\"><b>Wall Street&#8217;s<\/b><\/span><span style=\"color: #400040;\">) <\/span><span style=\"color: #400040;\"><b>desire for empire<\/b><\/span><span style=\"color: #400040;\">. <\/span><span style=\"color: #400040;\">And that is something we<\/span> <span style=\"color: #400040;\">Americans <\/span><span style=\"color: #400040;\">can act on \u2013 and thus achieve peace<\/span><span style=\"color: #400040;\">. <\/span><span style=\"color: #400040;\">But first we must <\/span><span style=\"color: #400040;\">face up to <\/span><span style=\"color: #400040;\">it.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-family: Carlito, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-large;\"><span style=\"color: #400040;\">NATO claims that Putin is just another Hitler, out to conquer the world. Well, maybe he&#8217;d like to, but he can&#8217;t and knows he can&#8217;t. So he certainly didn&#8217;t attack <\/span><span style=\"color: #400040;\">Ukraine<\/span><span style=\"color: #400040;\"> for THAT reason.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #400040;\"><span style=\"font-family: Carlito, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-large;\">He attacked because NATO provoked him into war by preparing to expand right up to Russia&#8217;s borders with Ukraine, including building sites for nuclear missiles impossible to stop at that short range.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #400040;\"><span style=\"font-family: Carlito, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-large;\">In other words, he attacked because NATO took out a knife to hold to his throat.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #400040;\"><span style=\"font-family: Carlito, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-large;\">How do you react to a bully (in this case, NATO) who holds a knife to your throat? Putin reacted by attacking &#8212; an error (and a crime, under international law) that may doom Russia.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #400040;\"><span style=\"font-family: Carlito, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-large;\">So the answer is NOT to respond to violence with violence.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #400040;\"><span style=\"font-family: Carlito, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-large;\">In 1962, President Kennedy responded to the violence of the USSR&#8217;s plans to install nuclear missiles in Cuba by threatening to start World War III. Had he done so, that, too, would have been a tragic error and a crime as well.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #400040;\"><span style=\"font-family: Carlito, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-large;\">Fortunately, the USSR backed down and canceled its plans for installing its missiles so close to the U.S. (Also because the U.S. dismantled its missile site in Turkey.)<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #400040;\"><span style=\"font-family: Carlito, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-large;\">But NATO refuses to back down. It is beating the war drums, supposedly to help Ukraine reconquer Donbass and Crimea in the name of sovereignty (in reality to be able to go ahead and install its missiles there).<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #400040;\"><span style=\"font-family: Carlito, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-large;\">In other words, NATO (i.e., Wall Street) wants to be able to hold a knife to Russia&#8217;s throat, because this would force Russia to capitulate to EVERYTHING, or risk annihilation. \u201cEverything\u201d includes reinstating another Eltsin, to give away the country\u2019s vast energy resources, grain production, etc.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #400040;\"><span style=\"font-family: Carlito, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-large;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">So what <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #400040;\"><span style=\"font-family: Carlito, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-large;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">would<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> <span style=\"color: #400040;\"><span style=\"font-family: Carlito, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-large;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">YOU<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #400040;\"><span style=\"font-family: Carlito, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-large;\"><span lang=\"en-US\"> do <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #400040;\"><span style=\"font-family: Carlito, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-large;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">if you were <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #400040;\"><span style=\"font-family: Carlito, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-large;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">in a situation like that? <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #400040;\"><span style=\"font-family: Carlito, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-large;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">What <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #400040;\"><span style=\"font-family: Carlito, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-large;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">would<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span> <span style=\"color: #400040;\"><span style=\"font-family: Carlito, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-large;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">YOU<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #400040;\"><span style=\"font-family: Carlito, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-large;\"><span lang=\"en-US\"> do <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #400040;\"><span style=\"font-family: Carlito, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-large;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">if you were <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #400040;\"><span style=\"font-family: Carlito, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-large;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">Russia?<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #400040;\"><span style=\"font-family: Carlito, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-large;\">(1.) You couldn&#8217;t just stand there with a knife to your throat. And yet (2.) it would be a bad idea to react by attacking, because that would only make things worse.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #400040;\"><span style=\"font-family: Carlito, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-large;\">Isn&#8217;t there some third way out?<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #400040;\"><span style=\"font-family: Carlito, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-large;\">That&#8217;s what the rally tomorrow will be saying. There IS a third way out. And, in the case of Ukraine, it&#8217;s not to tell Putin to back down, since he can&#8217;t<b>:<\/b> that would spell suicide not only for him but for his country as well.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #400040;\"><span style=\"font-family: Carlito, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-large;\">The third way out is to tell NATO to back down, since it can and should.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #400040;\"><span style=\"font-family: Carlito, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-large;\">NATO doesn&#8217;t need to install its missiles on Russia&#8217;s border with Ukraine, where they would be unstoppable. They&#8217;re enough of a deterrent where they are now.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #400040;\"><span style=\"font-family: Carlito, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-large;\">In addition, we know (from the offer to negotiate that Russia made BEFORE the invasion, in December 2021) that Putin will accept to make concessions. So letting Ukraine continue to stay out of NATO would not be a one-way street, NATO would get something in return (like the deal Kennedy brokered in 1962).<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #400040;\">\u201c<span style=\"font-family: Carlito, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-large;\">But isn\u2019t it Ukraine\u2019s <b>right<\/b> to join NATO if it wants?\u201d people often ask. No, it isn\u2019t. One\u2019s rights end where they infringe on the rights of others. Your neighbor can store whatever he wants next to your house, but not bombs, since they endanger you. So Ukraine has no right to join NATO just as Mexico has no right to join Moscow\u2019s version of NATO (the CSTO) and let Russia install missiles on the U.S.-Mexico border. That would be unduly endangering a neighbor.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #400040;\"><span style=\"font-family: Carlito, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-large;\">In other words, telling NATO to back down is not surrendering. NATO shouldn&#8217;t have begun the provocation in the first place. It&#8217;s simply &#8220;resetting&#8221; things back to where they were. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #400040;\"><span style=\"font-family: Carlito, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-large;\">What all this means, then, is that there IS a possibility for peace and <b>it lies in OUR hands<\/b>. Because only WE can stop NATO\u2019s (i.e., Wall Street\u2019s) quest for ever more territory to put under its control.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #400040;\"><span style=\"font-family: Carlito, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-large;\">Russia can&#8217;t stop NATO, as we can see. China refuses to take sides. Europe either looks the other way (Austria, Ireland, etc.) or backs NATO by supplying weapons to feed the war in Ukraine (Italy, France, etc.).<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #400040;\"><span style=\"font-family: Carlito, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-large;\">So that means that it is the American people who must stop NATO expansion. <i>That<\/i> is the ONLY road to peace.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #400040;\"><span style=\"font-family: Carlito, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-large;\">To get back to our analogy, if you were Russia and a bully (NATO) puts a knife to your throat, your reaction should NOT be to attack him: that will only make things worse. The events in Ukraine demonstrate this.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #400040;\"><span style=\"font-family: Carlito, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-large;\">Your reaction should be to call for help. To count on people around you stopping the bully. In the case of Russia, it should have called on the UN General Assembly.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #400040;\"><span style=\"font-family: Carlito, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-large;\">What if no one intervenes? What if everyone refuses to take sides and looks the other way? What if the only person around is powerless to act to save you (like, in the case of Russia, the UN General Assembly<b>:<\/b> it has no power to stop NATO expansion).<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #400040;\"><span style=\"font-family: Carlito, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-large;\">Then you&#8217;re doomed. But you would probably be doomed anyway if you chose to attack an armed aggressor. So you&#8217;re better off at least attempting to call for help. Russia should have at least tried to get the UN to tell NATO to stop bullying it by expanding eastward.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #400040;\"><span style=\"font-family: Carlito, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-large;\">Of course, if you had taken judo or other self defense courses, you might be able to disarm your assailant. Thus you would respond to violence, not with even greater violence, but by unbalancing your assailant using <i>his<\/i> impetus.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #400040;\"><span style=\"font-family: Carlito, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-large;\">That&#8217;s undoubtedly what Putin thought he could do. So he called his attack, not a war, but &#8220;a special operation&#8221; to disarm Ukraine, followed by an American-style regime change (i.e., bringing a \u201cfriendly\u201d regime to power) to make sure it stayed disarmed. Putin apparently thought NATO\u2019s insistent eastward impetus had overstretched it.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #400040;\"><span style=\"font-family: Carlito, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-large;\">He was wrong. NATO had armed Ukraine so heavily and accurately from 2014 to 2022, that the Ukrainians were able to stop the Russian army in its tracks, retake parts of Donbass and start to attack Crimea and even Russia itself. Things just got worse for Russia.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #400040;\"><span style=\"font-family: Carlito, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-large;\">Which means, in our analogy, that even if you (as Putin) did take judo courses and felt you could disarm any assailant (in this case, NATO-backed Ukraine), you might discover that your assailant was better prepared than you thought, a judo expert able to counter your moves and then knife you. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #400040;\"><span style=\"font-family: Carlito, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-large;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">So even if you <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #400040;\"><span style=\"font-family: Carlito, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-large;\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><i>had<\/i><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #400040;\"><span style=\"font-family: Carlito, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-large;\"><span lang=\"en-US\"> studied judo, you&#8217;d be better off <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #400040;\"><span style=\"font-family: Carlito, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-large;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">first <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #400040;\"><span style=\"font-family: Carlito, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-large;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">calling for help. And resorting to judo only if no one responded. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #400040;\"><span style=\"font-family: Carlito, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-large;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">That\u2019s what Putin should have done. Instead, he attacked. And now he\u2019s paying for it.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #400040;\"><span style=\"font-family: Carlito, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-large;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">The problem is, the poor Ukrainians are paying for it, too, and <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #400040;\"><span style=\"font-family: Carlito, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-large;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">are calling out to us for help. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #400040;\"><span style=\"font-family: Carlito, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-large;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">And we SHOULD help them. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #400040;\"><span style=\"font-family: Carlito, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-large;\"><span lang=\"en-US\">But \u201chelp\u201d does not mean sending more arms. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #400040;\"><span style=\"font-family: Carlito, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-large;\">In other words, we should not be listening to the propagandized Ukrainians who repeat the Pentagon line &#8220;More and more arms\u201d, i.e. the ones who think they are getting themselves killed \u201cfor democracy\u201d while in reality it is to let NATO test its new weapons and deplete Russia\u2019s.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p lang=\"en-US\" align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #400040;\"><span style=\"font-family: Carlito, sans-serif;\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-large;\">We should be listening to the OTHER Ukrainians, the ones the &#8220;democratic&#8221; government has not yet killed or put in jail for having called for peace.
